Redesigning and modernizing a popular Malay language radio app
We gave the Suria FM app a fresh new look with dark mode and custom CMS to boost user engagement.
Decade and a Half Strong
Suria FM is a private Malay language radio station that operates under Star Media Group Berhad and targets modern Malays aged between 25 and 35. In 2020, fifteen years after they first aired in December of 2005, we got to be part of their app’s revamp — and we’re proud of it.

Ready for a New Beginning
Suria FM already had a mobile app in the market, but it was time for a refresh. They came across what we did for 988 and talked to us about building similar features like catch-up play, live video, podcasts and user rewards for their app.
That was the very beginning of our partnership and their journey towards better user experience and engagement.
Three months later, we were ready to go live. Their users were happy with the improvement, and the Suria FM app is now the highest rated app on the App Store among their competitors.
Dark Theme to Soothe the Eyes
The all-new dark theme highlights Suria FM’s colorful and vibrant content. Especially popular among the younger generations of mobile users, dark mode catches the eye and yet puts it at ease.
Intuitive Home Page
With a minimal layout and Now Playing section, users can browse and navigate highlighted content with ease, on a single page.
Live Audio to Video Toggle Switch
For seamless switching between live audio and live video, we enabled a toggle switch on the Now Playing expanded section. Viewers’ comments and reactions are displayed for an immersive experience.
